Under the Spotlight: Monique Sutton

Are you feeling like you need a little impromptu dance party to get you through the day? Then look no further than Monique Sutton, the pride of Bathurst, New Brunswick, kicks off the party! While Monique has lived in Ontario for a while now, including 14 years here at Genumark, she brings the famous east coast charm with her into work every day. This makes her perfect as the Manager of Client Experience!

With a little bit of a hip shuffle to the computer, we managed to lure Monique into talking with us over Zoom to get to know her better.

MONIQUE, WHAT DO YOU DO ALL DAY?

A whole lot and I make it look good! In a nutshell, I manage the customer service team for all our webstores and fix any issues that may arise, leaving our customers feeling satisfied with the outcome.

DO YOU HAVE ANY NICKNAMES?

Mo or Mo-Fix, given to be by co-workers as whenever there is a problem, I work with everyone needed to find a resolution and keep our customers happy.

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE THE PROMO INDUSTRY?

I spent over a decade in retail, moving up from the floor to management. I hit a point where I wanted to get my life on track and wanted more for myself. I tried a lot of different industries and eventually found Genumark! I am sort of a jack of all trades here, my job allows me visibility into many different departments.

COOLEST PROMOTION PRODUCT YOU’VE SEEN AT GENUMARK?

I really like the Genumark water bottles that we received with our names on them! Firstly, it is a great way to represent our company and secondly, my kids won’t steal it because it has my name on it!

DREAM JOB AS A KID? FIRST REAL JOB?

My dream job was to be a fashion designer! Paris…Milan, a runway, my designs being modelled… I mean, who wouldn’t want that! My first real job was at 13, being a helper at a kids play place – serving pizza, cleaning up, music – you name it! I loved it though, it was a great first experience.

WHAT IS NAME OF THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF YOUR LIFE?

Live every day with a smile! You never know who may need it!

IF YOU COULD LEARN ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I would like to learn French. I can listen/read and understand it a bit, but I cannot speak it.

DEAD OR ALIVE, DREAM DINNER GUEST?

Timothy Olyphant or Ryan Reynolds. Timothy seems like he can hold and keep a great conversation and Ryan Reynolds well… he is just so dapper and definitely not hard to look at!

WHAT CHORE DO YOU HATE LOVE DOING?

Can we change this to what chore I love doing? I love cleaning my entire house. If I take a day off from work, I will often use it to clean my house from one end to the other. Not that my house is messy, I have OCD and kids…..and well, I like things in their place!

INTERESTS OUTSIDE GENUMARK?

My kids! Anything to do with them. Also, vacationing in tropical locations like Punta Cana. Helps remove me from the feeling of being obligated to anything, and it just puts me in a good place to relax.

FAVOURITE FOOD AND ADULT DRINK?

Cookies… all the cookies… but especially sugar cookies! Oh, and poutine! I don’t often drink, but when I do, it is a Vodka/Sprite with some grenadine.

THREE WORDS THAT DEFINE YOU?

Loving. Understanding. Humble

IF YOU COULD HAVE A ROLE IN ANY TV SHOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I would love to be the funny person who delivers the one liners, like Chandler Bing in Friends.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

Be confident in everything that you do. Advocate for yourself and prove that you are the person that others can rely on!

MOST EMBARRASSING THING YOU ARE WILLING TO ADMIT?

I used to think wall-to-wall carpeting was carpeting on the walls.

PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA; DOES IT BELONG?

NEGATORY! Has no business being there.

WHAT IS THE BEST DISH YOU CAN MAKE?

It’s more than one dish! I make an awesome Thanksgiving feast. The entire dinner down to the dessert! I made 10 pies at last year’s feast, everyone single one of them handmade, crust included.

HOW MUCH COFFEE DO YOU DRINK A DAY?

1-3 teas a day and coffee is a no no…like Pineapple on pizza.

WORDS OF ADVICE TO OTHERS?

Don’t sweat the small stuff! You can’t let everything get to you, you have to learn to smile, laugh and sometimes just roll with it. Be aware of others, offer a sympathetic ear since you never know what someone is going through.
