Under the Spotlight: Deanna Lewry

With a distinctive and welcoming laugh, it is always easy to find Deanna Lewry when wandering around Genumark Toronto. With a big heart and the desire to always help those around her, she makes a perfect leader as the Manager of Account Coordinators. A seasoned Genumark veteran, Deanna has seen it all!

We pulled her away from dealing with vendors so that we can showcase her great work here!

DEANNA, WHAT DO YOU DO ALL DAY?

Nothing! No, in all seriousness, I coordinate orders for sales managers, I problem solve solutions for coordinators or other managers around the office that need help. I interview and train new coordinators and coach the order entry team. That is just a taste of what I do!

NICKNAME

A lot of people call me Dee, but in my inner circle I am called “Mamma Dee” – I am basically everybody’s mom.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WITH GENUMARK?

9 years

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE THE PROMO INDUSTRY?

I worked for Cineplex as a coordinator for group sales across Canada.

COOLEST PROMOTION PRODUCT YOU HAVE SEEN AT GENUMARK?

We did branded tabletop fireplaces for OLG. They were really nice fireplaces that had an elegant plaque with their logo on them.

DREAM JOB AS A KID? WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

Being the production manager on a film set. My first job was at Dollarama in the Pickering Town Center

WHAT WOULD YOU NAME THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF YOUR LIFE?

Deanna Lewry? – I am still unsure of who I am; I learn new things about myself every day so I think this name would be appropriate

IF YOU COULD LEARN ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Hindi. I would love to learn how to speak, read, and write it!

DEAD OR ALIVE, DREAM DINNER GUEST?

Rosa Parks. I have never really known what segregation was like. I think it would be very interesting for me to understand.

INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF GENUMARK?

The gym because I love weightlifting. Watching Bollywood movies and also fiction writing.

FAVOURITE FOOD & ADULT DRINK?

I don’t eat beef anymore, but it would have to be oxtail. If it was made in a pressure cooker then it is the best thing in the world. The most tender beef you could ever have. As for drinks, I guess it would currently be ciders.

WHAT KIND OF WRITING DO YOU DO?

Most of the time it has a romantic base to it. Currently, I am writing something that focuses on depression and anxiety. I use realistic and supernatural characters to help bring these issues to light.

WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION IN YOUR WRITING?

Life. I have gone through some of the themes in my own life or know someone who has. On top of this, definitely television and movies as well.

THREE WORDS TO DEFINE YOU?

Energetic (most of the time). Personable. Insecure.

IF YOU COULD RELATE TO ANY FICTIONAL CHARACTER, WHO WOULD YOU BE?

Daria from the cartoon. She was super monotonous. She said what was on her mind, but was definitely a little insecure and awkward in social gatherings.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?

Finding happiness in life

FAVOURITE BOOK & TV SHOW?

My favourite book right now would be the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. It is really good writing. My favourite tv show was, the now cancelled Punisher!

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

You do not want to be older as much as you think you do.

MARVEL OR DC?

This is such a hard question! I love both the Punisher (Marvel) and the Flash (DC), but if I had to choose just one, it would have to be Marvel because of the Punisher.

WHAT IS THE MOST EMBARRASSING THING YOU ARE WILLING TO ADMIT?

Well, this is something that any woman who has been pregnant can relate to. I have wet myself while I was pregnant when I laughed too hard!

THREE HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR LIFE?

My kid (I never thought I wanted kids, but turns out here is pretty cool!). Finishing and publishing a book. Keeping my two best friends that I have known since elementary school in my inner circle.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WEREN’T DOING THIS?

I would like to open a jewelry and crafting store in the Durham Region. I feel like it is lacking and the big craft stores don’t meet the needs.

WHAT ACTOR PLAYED “THE PUNISHER” THE BEST?

Come on! That is not even a question. Jon Bernthal – 100%

PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA; DOES IT BELONG?

No! But of course my husband tries to tell me otherwise.

WHAT IS THE BEST DISH YOU CAN MAKE?

I make a sour cream chicken. The meat is so tender and tasty!

WORDS OF ADVICE TO OTHERS?

Put yourself first. Take care of yourself and make yourself happy. You only get one life and if you are not doing what makes you even a little bit content, then you need to figure out what you can do to add positive energy into yourself.
