Genumark Sponsor Curling Champs!

Genumark is incredibly proud to be a sponsor for Team Allan. The four best friends who live in the greater Barrie area recently won the 2012 Ontario Police Curling Championship.

Three team members work for the York Regional Police and the other works with the Barrie Police Service. As a team they have won 5 Provincial Championships and have placed second at the nationals twice, including last year in Truro, Nova Scotia. In 2005 Team Allan were good enough to be the National Champions!

Team Allan consists of:

  • Robert (Wyllie) Allan – Skip – Barrie Police
  • Ted McIntyre – Vice – York Police
  • Brian Mooring – Second – York Police
  • Frank Badowich – Lead – York Police
  • Honourable mention to “Big Jim” Rettinger (B.J.) – our fifth man (from Midland who unfortunately can not make the trip to Montreal this year.)

Wyllie says “We are thankful for this event and the friendships it has brought us. As a team we have seen lots. We have played in Winnipeg, Moncton, Calgary, Kamloops, Kelowna and Truro. We have played in provincial play-downs covering just about all of Southern Ontario. Most importantly whether playing with us or against us, we consider all the competitors (Nationally & Provincially) our great friends…”

The charity that both the provincial and national championships are in aid of is the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada. The charity is extremely important to everyone involved.

Are You An API Fanboy?

First of all what is an API? Well it’s an abbreviation of Application Program Interface which is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. A good API makes it easier to develop a program by providing all the building blocks you need.

Yellow API is an application programming interface that allows you to stream top Canadian local search content into your mobile, web and other applications. Using Yellow API’s database of over 1.5 million business listings and rich content (such as videos, photos, ad thumbnails and much more), you can deliver the best Canadian local search content to your users.

Yellow API contacted Genumark as they needed help making shirts that appealed to the unique t-shirt culture of ‘the geek’! Yellow API designed something really smart and we contributed by sourcing the perfect product, quality checking and delivering on time. The aim was to encourage people to wear the t-shirt over and over again to the many gatherings organized by Yellow API. In these events programmers are given the task to build the coolest applications within 6 hours! This meant that when creating the shirts a careful use of keywords such as ‘fanboy’ and ‘apple’ was vital as it gives the wearer a connection to the shirt. They are then more likely to display the message on their chest! This is coupled with the subtle (small) use of the Yellow API logo (located on the back just below the neck) which creates a great promo piece as the corporate logo is still visible but not distracting.

The video below shows the shirt in action and also gives a quick summary of the company, service and image.

Genumark feels that this is a very good example of finding the correct application, design and product to match a specific target audience.

Turn Old T-Shirts into Shopping Bags!

Shwagbags are the most fun and sustainable reusable bag yet!

They use old t-shirts and resew them to create a very unique looking bag that is made right here in Canada. The bags are made from cotton t-shirts so they can be machine washed, plus the handles and bottom are double reinforced for extra strength and durability.

Shwagbag are able to provide you with t-shirts as they also operate as a service that collects old shirts. Once the transformation has taken place the bags are then custom branded with your logo. If you provide your own shirts from past events you will get a discount off the standard price. This means there is also a further saving for you and the environment as they will not need to be imprinted again because they are already branded with your logo.

Shirts Made from Coffee & Volcanic Ash!

Stylish, well cut and eco-friendly, these are the things that make AUR Aware’s golf shirts so unique.  That and the fact that the shirts you see below are made from coffee grounds and volcanic ash!  The S. Cafe golf shirts are made from coffee grounds that are transformed into yarn which is then used to make their shirts.  And, because most coffee grounds end up in landfills, the S. Cafe clothing line helps to reduce landfill waste.  The Geotech shirts use a similar process but instead of coffee, volcanic ash is transformed into yarn which is then woven into the shirt you see below on the right.
